Update your profile on Westlaw and LexisNexis

Make sure you do not miss messages sent by your faculty!  Last fall, students’ University e-mail address changed to @zips.uakron.edu.   If you registered using the old address, the e-mail function in TWEN and Lexis Web Course software will not work properly.

Here is how you can update your profile on Westlaw and Lexis. 

For Westlaw: Log into Westlaw http://lawschool.westlaw.com/ and just to the right of your name is the UPDATE link.  Click on that link to update your profile.

For LexisNexis: Log into LexisNexis http://www.lexisnexis.com/lawschool/ and click on the HELP tab.  At the next screen, click on UPDATE REGISTRATION INFO.

Brief Writing & Oral Advocacy Program – Free to Akron Law Students

Learn from insiders how to be most effective in court.  Ninth District Court of Appeals Judge Beth Whitmore &  Director of the Legal Clinic and Appellate Review Office & Professor of Law at Akron Law, J. Dean Carro  will provide insight on written and oral advocacy.

GREAT OPPORTUNITY — Judge Polster Seeks 2nd or 3rd year Akron Law student

Cleveland, OH:  U.S. District Judge Dan Polster is seeking an Akron Law student to intern with his court this semester.  This is a wonderful opportunity as Judge Polster treats his interns like a paid law school graduate who is clerking.  Interested 2nd and 3rd year students who are in the top 25% of their class must contact Professor Gary Spring in the Legal Clinic by 4 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, August 25. Externship credit may be available or students can apply for public interest funds through the public interest program here at the Law School. Call Professor Spring today! Career Networking Opportunity – As you may know, Akron Law regularly hosts alumni outreach events in various cities where our alumni reside and work. The law school is offering an opportunity for students who are interested in meeting with alumni living and working in cities we are visiting this fall to join us in these cities for an opportunity to network.

All students are welcome to attend alumni city visits. In addition, to allow for greater student participation, the Office of External Programs has allocated funds to support student travel to these events. If the number of student requests exceeds the amount available, travel reimbursement requests will be determined by a lottery. Student reimbursement for these events will be made at a maximum of $150 per student for events held within Ohio and a maximum of $250 per student for events held outside Ohio for reimbursement of travel expenses.

Students who are interested in attending these events and wish to receive travel reimbursement must respond by submitting their name and city of interest by 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010.  Students may submit their names for reimbursement for multiple events, but will only be available for one reimbursement.  (Winning the lottery for one event automatically excludes an individual for a chance to be reimbursed for another event. No prioritizing or selecting is allowed.)  Again, students are welcome to attend as many events as they like at no cost for the meal but without travel reimbursement.

Please note:  Attendance at these events are not excused absences from class.  Interested students should contact their professors before agreeing to attend to determine how any such absence will be treated.  If you are interested in attending one of these events and/or being considered for reimbursement, please respond to Jeanne Kennedy (jeanne2@uakron.edu) by 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 and include:
