It is Time to Change Your Westlaw Password

Westlaw is requiring all law students and faculty to change their password during the month of January.  In order to avoid any interruption in your access to the West Study Aids, WestlawNext and TWEN it is important for you to change your password.

In order to change your password, login to www.lawschool.westlaw.com, select UPDATE beside your name, select MANAGE ONEPASS PROFILE, enter a new password, and then click SAVE.  If you have any questions, please feel free to either contact Kyle Passmore (Law 248, pkyle@uakron.edu, 330-972-6352), email Brooke Stokke at brooke.stokke@thomsonreuters.com,  or call 1-800-850-WEST(9378).

1.     Log onto www.lawschool.westlaw.com,
2.     Click UPDATE,  (the Update link appears next to your name on the Law School Westlaw page)

3.      Then click MANAGE ONEPASS PROFILE

4.     Enter and re-enter a new password– passwords must be between 8-16 characters and contain at least         3 of the required features (uppercase, lowercase, symbol, number).

Community Service and Networking Opportunity

Earn community service hours and meet members of the Stark County Bar Association! Six law student volunteers are needed to assist with Law, Love & Chocolate, an event co-sponsored by the Akron Law Alumni Association and the Stark County Bar Association. Volunteers will provide tours of the Historic Onesto Lofts to event attendees. We will provide the volunteers with the tour information on the evening of the event before guests arrive.

The event will be held on Thursday, February 5th from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at The Historic Onesto Lofts in downtown Canton. Volunteers will need to arrive by 3:30 p.m. If you are interested in volunteering, please e-mail Suzanne Brittain, Director of Marketing and Communications, at smb7@uakron.edu.

Spring Public Interest Law Stipend – applications due Friday, January 30th

Public Interest Law Program – Spring 2015: Each semester (spring, summer and fall), the Law School awards a stipend to a number of students who have secured a public interest internship. Applications for funding for the Spring 2015 Public Interest Law (PIL) Program will be accepted beginning Monday, January 12, 2015.

Students interested in applying for a Spring 2015 Public Interest Law award should begin thinking now about securing a placement for their spring PIL work experience. The Public Interest Law Program supports and encourages those students who would like to gain experience in public interest areas. Recent local placements have included:

Summer Associate Opportunities with Thompson Hine! Deadline is January 29th!

The Real Estate practice group of Thompson Hine LLP seeks a 2L for a summer clerkship in its Cleveland office. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in the real estate industry, the ability to take on material responsibility and interact directly with clients at an early stage, the drive to inspire client confidence and foster strong client relationships, outstanding academic credentials (preferably including coursework in such areas as contracts, real estate finance/transactions, business associations, federal income tax, secured transactions, and bankruptcy), a strong work ethic and independent discipline, and excellent writing and research skills. Required materials include a letter of interest, resume, and transcript.

The Business Litigation practice group of Thompson Hine LLP seeks a 2L for a summer clerkship in its Cleveland office. Outstanding academic credentials, excellent writing and research skills, and a strong interest in a career as a trial lawyer are required. Participation in Law Review and moot court team competition are preferred, as is coursework and/or clinical offerings in trial practice. Required materials include a letter of interest, resume, and transcript.

The Corporate Transactions & Securities practice group of Thompson Hine LLP seeks a 2L for a summer clerkship in its Cincinnati office. This position will focus on complex transactional matters, including mergers & acquisitions, public offerings, private equity deals and corporate governance issues. Outstanding academic credentials, excellent drafting and research skills, and an interest in a career as a transactional lawyer are required. Participation in extracurricular activities is preferred, as is coursework focusing on mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance and corporate governance.
