Admissions – Volunteers Requested for Orientation

Can you believe it’s time to Welcome our newest ‘Alums-In-Waiting’? Remember when you were in their position, walking through the doors of Akron Law for the first time.

We need current Akron Law students to assist with Orientation festivities and events. Please let me know if you are available to assist with one more of the following activities:

Monday, August 20, 2012
• Check-In – varying 1.5 -2 hour shifts between 12:30 pm and 6:30 pm
• Campus Tour – 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm: Tour of the campus including the student union and rec center
• Law School Tour – 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm: Tour of the Law School
• My First Year Panel – 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm: Panel discussing your first year of law school experiences

Wednesday, August 22, 2012
• Law Spouses, Partners and Significant Others Panel Discussion – 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm: Bring your spouse, partner or significant other to discuss experiences and life with incoming students and their spouses

Thursday, August 23, 2012
• Court House Tour – 1:00 pm – 2:45 pm: Take students on a tour of Akron Municipal Court, the County Court of Common Pleas and the Ohio 9th District Court of Appeals

General Community Service Opportunity – Sunday, September 9th

This event is the River Run half marathon. It includes a run that is 13.1 miles long that begins at Wallace Lake in Berea, OH and ends at Memorial Fields in Rocky River, OH.

 

At 7:00 a.m. the walkers will begin the race.

At 8:00 a.m. the runners will begin.

The course will close down at 11:00 a.m. (all remaining runners/walkers will be pushed onto the sidewalks).

 

Our volunteer duties include a couple of things:

 

These are the following opportunities:

 

1.)           Water Stop- Volunteers will pour water and Gatorade and hand them to runners as they run by during the race and pick up any cups/trash in the  

area. (Minimum 15 volunteers)

2.)           Post-race food- Volunteers will help pass out post-race food that is the following: pizza, ice cream, fruit, etc. (minimum 15 volunteers)

3.)           Timers- Volunteers are placed along the course at each mile marker with a stop watch to yell times to runners are they run by. (13 volunteers)

 

We ask that your group arrives at 7:00 a.m. (at your assigned location).  Once the last person has come through your location you are free to go.
