Attention Class of 2013: Important Reminders for your Pro Bono/Community Service Requirement

Attention Students Graduating in May 2013!

There are over 100 students in your class who have not yet registered for the mandatory Pro Bono Service Requirement course with Professor Joann Sahl (one credit), which must be completed this fall or spring prior to your graduation. If you have completed your pro bono/community service hours already, or your requirement will be met after your volunteer work this summer is reported, please consider registering for the Pro Bono Service Requirement course for the fall. If you are unsure of your current reported hours, please contact Alisa Benedict O’Brien at ab139@uakron.edu.

Also, please remember that all 30 hours must be completed by April 1st in order to graduate.

Akron Law Federalist Society – Supreme Court Preview, September 4, 2012

Professor Brian Fitzpatrick of Vanderbilt Law School and Akron Law’s own Professor Wilson Huhn will deliver an informative 35-40  minutes of sparkling constitutional conversation on cases such as Fisher v. University of Texas, to be directly followed by Q & A. Catering is by Chipotle with steak, chicken, and vegetarian options while supplies last.”

Midwest BLSA Law Journal – Seeking Editorial Board Members

APPLY TO SERVE ON THE EDITORIAL BOARD OF THE MWBLSA LAW JOURNAL!

The MWBLSA Law Journal, published once annually, will give Midwest Black Law Students Association (“MWBLSA”) members an opportunity to submit an article to be considered for publication, as well as increase familiarity with the Bluebook®. In addition, the research required to write and edit the journal will help you master Westlaw®, LexisNexis®, and other sources, making you an invaluable asset to employers. Finally, members of the MWBLSA Law Journal can highlight the significant academic distinction of being an editor of a law journal on their resumes.

The Editorial Board is open to rising second-year and third-year NBLSA members attending a law school in the Midwest Region. Corresponding with the regional theme, the MWBLSA Law Journal theme for the 2012-2013 academic year is “Combat Complacency, Evoke Excellence.”

TRIAL TEAM INFORMAL MEETING: Tuesday, August 28, 2012 5:30-6:30pm

Akron Trial Team will be holding an INFORMAL MEETING on TUESDAY, AUGUST 28, from 5:30-6:30 pm in W-209. We will be discussing the upcoming try-outs and trial team in general. Come meet the coaches and get help with your try-out material!

TRIAL TEAM TRYOUTS: Saturday, September 1, 2012 9:00 am- 4:00 pm

Akron Trial Team will be holding TRYOUTS on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, STARTING AT 9:00 a.m. and continuing through the day.  It’s never been a better time for incoming competitors!  Please sign up for a 10 minute slot on the signup sheet located in the Legal Clinic.  All people trying out must give a short opening statement or a closing argument no longer than 5 minutes in length.  The case that you will be arguing is a civil case, and the packet is also located in the Legal Clinic.  You DO NOT WANT TO MISS this amazing opportunity to learn valuable skills, work with top trial attorneys, and advance your career.
