A Message from Ohio State Bar Association President, Carol Seubert Marx, Esq.
August , 2011
The Ohio State Bar Association would like to welcome you to law school!
I recently attended the new student orientation reception at the University of Akron School of Law. As the current OSBA president, I was delighted to be given the opportunity to speak to incoming students during this reception.
I would personally encourage you to get involved with your state bar association from the beginning of your law school experience. The OSBA has many benefits for law students including committees and sections, networking opportunities, employment assistance, and Casemaker. Casemaker is our online legal research tool that is offered for free as part of your OSBA membership. I would encourage you to ask your professors about Casemaker and the training that the OSBA has to offer. You will find Casemaker to be one of the most used tools throughout your law school career. Many firms are using Casemaker as their primary research tool.
As a current law school student your OSBA membership is FREE! Please click the following link to join the OSBA – remember this is FREE – http://www.ohiobar.org/Pages/staticPageViewer.aspx?articleid=272.
I am providing a link below to the Law Student Hub on the OSBA website, where you can learn about upcoming events at the OSBA, concerns of other students, your OSBA student liaison listing, awards and scholarship opportunities, and much more.

Please feel free to contact the OSBA staff at osba@ohiobar.org with any of your questions or concerns and they will be happy to help you.
I wish you the best in your law school career!
Cordially,

New Juvenile Court Program Training Session – September 10, 10 am – 1 pm, Legal Clinic
On Saturday September 10, 2011 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Legal Clinic there will be a training session for a new program. Through this new program students will be able to volunteer to interview juveniles, weekday mornings from 7 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. The purpose of the interviews is to gather facts for attorneys to use when representing the client for the initial Juvenile Court appearance. You can do as many or as few interviews as you would like. But if you volunteer you will have to make the interview day and time to which you committed.
The training session will equip you to interview young people, identify a variety of issues and gather relevant information for the court appearance. You will discuss the case with the attorney the morning you do the interview.
The interviews will be conducted at the Juvenile Court and the detention facility which are on Dan Street, about a 5 minute drive from the School of Law.
If you are interested in this training session please contact Professor Carro at carro1@uakron.edu by September 2, 2011. Seating is limited. If you are not able to attend this training session a video will be available for later viewing. The program organizers would like to begin the interviews by September 15, 2011.
