Great Networking Opportunity – Akron Law Alumni Golf Outing – Two students may attend for free!

Law Students – Would you like the opportunity to NETWORK with Akron Law alumni and have fun at the same time?

Attend the Akron Law Alumni Golf Outing on Sept. 16, 2011 at the Firestone Country Club:  South Course. Tee times begin at 8:20 a.m. (includes continental breakfast, green fee, cart, locker, lunch)

The School of Law Office of External Programs will pay the cost for two law students to attend this great event. If you would like to be considered for the golf outing, you must email Michele Novachek @ manovac@uakron.edu by 4:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, August 30. The names of all students who e-mail Ms. Novacheck by 4:30 today will be placed in a drawing and the two students whose names are selected will be notified via e-mail on Wednesday morning, August 31.

 

Keep your profiles up-to-date on Westlaw and LexisNexi

At least once-a-year law students should update their profiles on LexisNexis and Westlaw.  Check your e-mail address and your graduation date.   The faculty may use the e-mail function in TWEN or Lexis Web Course to send e-mail to their students, but if your address is not correct you will not receive the e-mail.  Your access to Westlaw and Lexis depends on your graduation date.  If you extend your course work past your predicted graduation date, you need to notify Lexis and Westlaw of your new graduation date.

Here is how you can update your profile on Westlaw and Lexis.

For Westlaw: Log into Westlaw http://lawschool.westlaw.com/  and on the left side of the page next to your name is the UPDATE link.  Click on that link to update your profile.

For LexisNexis: Log into LexisNexis http://www.lexisnexis.com/lawschool/ and click on the ACCOUNT HELP tab.  At the next screen, click on MANAGE MY ACCOUNT.

The Ohio State Bar Association would like to welcome you to law school!   

I recently attended the new student orientation reception at the University of Akron School of Law.  As the current OSBA president, I was delighted to be given the opportunity to speak to incoming students during this reception. 

I would personally encourage you to get involved with your state bar association from the beginning of your law school experience.  The OSBA has many benefits for law students including committees and sections, networking opportunities, employment assistance, and Casemaker.  Casemaker is our online legal research tool that is offered for free as part of your OSBA membership.  I would encourage you to ask your professors about Casemaker and the training that the OSBA has to offer.  You will find Casemaker to be one of the most used tools throughout your law school career.  Many firms are using Casemaker as their primary research tool.
