JRCLS – Election Meeting – April 15, noon, W-208

The J. Reuben Clark Law Society will be holding officer elections for the 2011-2012 school year at noon on April 15 in W-208. Please come out and JRCLS and become a part of a great student organization. For those of you that are interested in JRCLS: We affirm the strength brought to the study of law by a law student’s personal religious conviction. We strive through public service and diligence in our studies to promote fairness and virtue founded upon the rule of law. In fulfilling its mission statement, the Student Chapter is guided by the philosophy, personal example, and values of its namesake, J. Reuben Clark, Jr. Those values include: (1) public service, (2) loyalty to the rule of law, and (3) appreciation for the religious dimension in society and in a law student’s personal life.

Law Week Event: Ohio Court of Appeals 5th District

Akron Law Students are invited to attend the Stark County Bar Association’s Law Week Celebration as The Ohio Court of Appeals, Fifth Appellate District holds court at GlenOak High School on Monday, May 3, 2011.

Six cases will be argued beginning at 8:45 a.m. and ending around 1:30 p.m.  GlenOak’s auditorium seats 900.  Because the Court is accustomed to people walking in and out of the court room during the proceeding, the audience may arrive at any time to hear one case or stay for the entire session.

Law Review Information Sessions – Apr. 13, 12:30 and 5:30

Law Review will be holding two information sessions on Wednesday, April 13th. They will be held at 12:30 p.m. in room W-210 and 5:30 p.m. in room L-165. Please come to learn more about the Law Review in general, the requirements for grading or writing on to the staff, and to answer any questions you may have. Message From Associate Dean Meg Andreeff Matejkovic – Go Red For Women Luncheon

Women and men are coming together in the fight against the leading cause of death for women – heart disease.  Akron Law has purchased a table for the 2011 Go Red for Women luncheon on May 12.  This year’s keynote speaker is Mariel Hemingway and the luncheon will be emceed by Betsy Kling, a meteorologist for the Cleveland NBC affiliate.  Hear stories of some individuals touched by heart disease, learn how heart disease affects a family, and how you can stop heart disease in our lifetime.  The luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. (luncheon served at noon) until 1:30 p.m. at the Quaker Station.  Akron Law’s table will be filled on a first-respond basis, so contact Mary Ann Garrett today (mgarret@uakron.edu).  Be a part of this extraordinary day!
