Eligibility:

• Must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in criminal justice
• Minimum GPA of 3.2
• Enrolled at an accredited college or university in the United States
• At least 17 years of age
• U.S. citizen

Requirements:

• Proof of enrollment and current GPA (such as an unofficial transcript, class schedule, or acceptance letter)
• An original essay of up to 1,000 words responding to the following prompt:
  • “The role of a judge is often seen as the cornerstone of the judicial system, requiring impartiality, wisdom, and adherence to the rule of law. In your essay, explore the importance of judges in maintaining justice in society. What qualities—such as integrity, patience, or legal acumen—are most essential for a judge, and how do these characteristics impact the fairness of criminal cases?”

Overview:
The Kanoski Bresney Stand Up to Distracted Driving Scholarship supports students who are passionate about raising awareness of the dangers of distracted driving. This scholarship offers five awards of $1,000 each to students who share their personal stories and creative ideas for promoting safer driving habits.

Eligibility:

• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
• Must meet one of the following:
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited U.S. college or university (continuing through at least Fall 2025), or
  • A high school senior who will begin college in Spring or Fall 2025

Requirements:

• A 1,000-word essay responding to the prompt: How has distracted driving affected your life? What ideas do you have to raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving and prevent this behavior among young drivers?
• Essay must be double-spaced, in 12-point font, with one-inch margins, and submitted as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file
• Academic transcript
• Professional photograph
• Contact information including full name, phone number, mailing address, and email address

• Originality and impact of the ideas presented
• Organization, clarity, and writing quality
