National LGBTQ+ Bar Association Scholarships

The National LGBTQ+ Bar has recently launched a scholarship program for LGBTQ+ and ally law students. Three scholarships of $2,500 will be awarded annually; all current and incoming students with a commitment to LGBTQ+ equality are encouraged to apply. Applications are now open for the 2021-2022 school year, and will close on April 1, 2021. In addition, the National LGBTQ+ Bar has added a new resource page to its website listing LGBTQ+ diversity scholarships: https://lgbtbar.org/programs/law-students/scholarship-list/

The legal clinic seeks volunteers for the Certificate of Qualification for Employment (CQE) clinic.

The clinic assists eligible clients remotely with
completing the CQE application. To participate in the opportunity, you must
attend training. The next training will be on March 23, from
5-6:30pm pm online.  Once trained law students can work on CQEs on their own
time with clients to earn pro bono of limited means hours. The training
will also count for those hours. If you have any questions or want to sign
up for the training please contact Kellie Lockemer at
kml134@uakron.edu Thank you!

Public Interest Fun-Raiser!

SAVE THE DATE: The Student Bar Association is hosting its annual Public Interest Law Fellowship Fundraiser, which is aimed at raising funds to provide stipends for law students who work in non-profit or public interest settings during the summer.

The Public Interest Fellowship Program supports and encourages students looking to gain legal experience in public interest law. Students who have secured a placement with a public interest organization, such as a court, a state or federal agency, or a qualifying non-profit entity, are eligible to apply for a fellowship to support their legal work. Students who apply for a fellowship must attend the event.

This year we are hosting a virtual trivia night and winners will earn bragging rights and a trophy. There will be other awesome prizes given throughout the night. We hope to see you there!
