Offerings by Bar Review Course Companies – Message from Associate Dean Jordan

As we begin the school year, several companies will be promoting the sale of their bar review courses. We highly recommend that you take a bar review course in preparation for the bar examination, and as discussed below, the law school subsidizes a very substantial portion of the cost of your bar review course.

As you consider the various bar review course promotions, you should be aware of the following:

1. The law school will provide you with a fellowship to cover 90% of the cost of your bar review course, up to a maximum of $2200.

2. Although the subsidy significantly reduces the cost of the bar review course to you, you still need to be careful in selecting the course that is best for you. You should consider both cost and any other elements of the contract offered by the company.

3. This is an opportunity for you to exercise the skills you learned in Contracts. Examine each offer carefully. Generally, as any company offering any contract reduces its own potential income from the contract through discounts or cost reductions, it tends to add other provisions that strongly favor the company. This is normal commercial practice. As an intelligent consumer, particularly one with training in Contracts, you should carefully consider whether the balance suits your needs and make the choice appropriate to your situation.

Now is certainly the time to begin preparing for your ultimate success on the bar examination. Good luck!
