Message from Lia Evans, Director of Alumni and Development
The Akron Law Alumni Association (“LAA”) Board of Directors has a dedicated position on its Board for a student director. This unique and valuable opportunity provides the student director a chance to become involved in alumni leadership and activities with the law school. The student director represents Akron Law students to the LAA Board and works with the Board to identify ways in which students and alumni may work and communicate together for the benefit of both groups.

The Board meetings begin at 4:30 p.m. and generally last for one and a half hours.
The student director is also expected to assist with the class gift campaign.

(1) why he or she wants to serve on the LAA Board;
(2) why the student believes that he or she should be selected for the position;
(3) a copy of the student’s resume; and

Bristow Fellowship: The Office of the Solicitor General’s Bristow Fellowship Program is taking applications for their one-year program.

Bristow Fellowship
The Office of the Solicitor General’s Bristow Fellowship Program is taking applications for their one-year program.
Fellowship applications must be law school graduates with exceptional academic records. Applicants typically have completed a judicial clerkship, most frequently with a federal appellate court judge. We are looking for a diverse group of graduates from law schools throughout the United States.
Bristow Fellows work closely with the lawyers within the Office of the Solicitor General and assist with drafting briefs in opposition to petitions for certiorari filed in the Supreme Court of the United States, as well as, prepare recommendations to the Solicitor General regarding the authorization of government appeals in the lower courts. The fellows also assist in the preparation of petitions and briefs in the Supreme Court cases, work on special projects, and help the Solicitor General and lawyers in the office prepare for oral argument before the Supreme Court. Four fellows are generally hired per year.
The one-year Bristow Fellowship cannot lead directly to permanent employment in the Solicitor General’s office, although some Bristows have returned to the office as Assistant to the Solicitor General after practicing elsewhere. The annual salary is established at the GS-12, Step 1 level ($76,378). We are seeking applicants for one-year fellowships beginning in July or early August 2107. All applicants must serve a minimum of 12-months of a 14-month appointment. Applications should be submitted no later than September 1, 2016.
The following application materials must be submitted and included as one package:
• Cover letter containing a statement of interest in participating in the Fellowship Program
• Resume
• Official Law School Transcript
• Three letters from references familiar with the applicant’s work and abilities; and
• A writing sample
