Cincinnati, OH – Anti-Sex Trafficking Summer 2019 Intern – Ohio Justice & Policy Center

AkronLawJobs No. 9869 Overview: The Ohio Justice & Policy Center is a nonprofit public interest law firm that works to create fair, intelligent, redemptive criminal justice systems. Among its projects, OJPC offers free legal assistance and education to help survivors of sex trafficking remove criminal-records-based barriers and protect their rights. The intern will directly support the legal work being done by Verjine Adanalian, attorney and Equal Justice Works Crime Victims Justice Corps fellow. The intern will help provide civil legal services, including record sealing and expungement, for survivors – as well as support outreach and training for community partners. Throughout the summer, the intern may assist with outreach, correspondence and court-document drafting, court appearances (especially rising 3Ls with a student-practice certificate from the Ohio Supreme Court), other litigation support, policy research, prison visits, collaborative work with community organizers, and policy-advocacy support.

Salary: The Equal Justice Works Crime Victims Justice Corps fellowship program is providing a stipend of $3,200 to help support the intern in this internship experience. OJPC will readily assist in any application for additional funding or externship credit to further support the intern’s work during the summer.

Duties: Conduct legal research and writing; Assist with screenings and intakes; Support community outreach and education activities; and Observe and participate in meetings with clients, advocacy organizations, and governmental agencies.

Qualifications: Currently a law student in good standing. Must have a strong, demonstrated interest in the anti-human trafficking field. Must have excellent research, verbal, and written communication skills; Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity; Strong organizational and time management skills; Excellent collaboration skills; The ability to handle multiple projects at once; and Demonstrated resourcefulness and ability to take initiative in developing and completing projects.
