The Department of Student Conduct and Community Standards is offering a unique leadership opportunity for interested graduate/professional-level students to serve on the University Hearing Board.

The University Hearing Board is utilized when a student has been charged with a violation of the Code of Student Conduct at the University of Akron and the student does not feel that the charge(s) is/are warranted, or chooses not to accept responsibility for the alleged behavior(s). In these cases, the University Hearing Board is activated in order to reach a resolution.

  • The University Hearing Board is comprised of five members; including faculty, staff and students and it is convened to:
  • Provide all parties an opportunity to share what happened from their perspectives,
  • Develop questions for students and witnesses involved to understand theincident and fact pattern,
  • Deliberate to determine outcome of case, once all information has been heard.

This leadership opportunity is an outstanding addition to your academic curriculum and resume by strengthening the skills you possess in listening, problem solving, questioning/interviewing others, and the critical analysis of information.

2021 HOWARD C. SCHWAB MEMORIAL ESSAY CONTEST SECTION OF FAMILY LAW

Each year, the American Bar Association Section of Family Law conducts an essay contest to encourage law students to think about current issues in family law, and to encourage participation in the Section of Family Law. Students may write on any aspect of family law. The contest is open to second and third-year full-time J.D. students (and second through fourth-year part-time J.D. students) of all ABA-approved law schools, and to first year J.D. students where family law is taught as part of the first year curriculum.

Please bring this essay contest to the attention of your family and juvenile law professors so that they might encourage your law students to participate.

Winning entries receive the following: Monetary prize, certificate of recognition, consideration of essay’s publication in Family Law Quarterly and on the Section website, and letter to law school dean regarding the achievement. To enter, one must submit an entry form by April 9, 2021. Essays are due April 23, 2021.
