IP Careers with the IP Advisory Council

On Monday, September 21st,  from 2:15 – 3:00 PM in Room 152, three members of Akron Law’s IP Advisory Council will have a panel discussion on IP careers.  The panelist include an attorney from a large firm with a general business law focus (Malisheia Douglas at Calfee Halter & Griswold), one from a smaller IP boutique firm (Phil Warrick from Klarquist Sparkman LLP), and one who serves as in-house counsel at a major company (Kevin Dunn from Lincoln Electric Co.).  They will discuss their current jobs and career paths, and offer suggestions on what current law students can do to position themselves to secure a great IP job upon graduation and beyond.

CALI Authorization Code for Law Students

The Computer Assisted Legal Instructions (CALI) lessons are a valuable resource that you may wish to use to review or reinforce material covered in class.

To use the lessons you will need to register on the CALI site and enter our law school’s authorization code.  Here are the instructions for obtaining the School of Law CALI authorization code and accessing the CALI lessons:

1. Click on this link and enter your UAnet ID and university password.

2. A PDF document will open with Akron’s CALI authorization code and additional instructions on accessing the CALI website.

3. Go to CALI’s website (http://www.cali.org ) and click on “Create New Account.”   Follow the instructions on that web page and enter the CALI authorization code when prompted. Use your University email address.

You will need to use this authorization code the first time you register.   During the registration process you create a custom password. In subsequent visits to use the lessons, you will just enter your email address and your custom password.

Please do not give The University of Akron School of Law CALI authorization code to anyone outside of this law school.  The University of Akron is a member of the Center for Computer Assisted Legal Instruction and therefore has a license to the CALI exercises.

Questions? Please contact the Law Library at 330-972-7330 and ask to speak to a librarian.

Law School Softball Team — Wilson’s Warriors

The Law School is looking to have a co-ed softball team this summer.  Dean Wilson will lead the charge and Prof. Spring will help with the administrative functions.    The first session of intramural softball was scrubbed because there were not enough teams but session two starts next week.  Games will be at either 7 or 8 pm on Tuesdays for the next six weeks.  We need a big group of potential players due to vacations, conflicts, etc.

The Intramural Office strictly enforces its rules and someone cannot just show up and play.  If you want to play you need to be on the roster and meet the eligibility requirements (set out below) before the first game.  If you want to play please email gspring@uakron.edu and indicate your relative level of experience.  We have been competitive (the league isn’t that good) with a mix of talent and experience in the past and everyone is welcome.  It is good fun that is very collegial and it is hoped that we will have plenty of participants to field a team.  The eligibility standards are:

Students enrolled in summer classes, in at least one (1) credit in any academic summer session(s)

Students not enrolled in summer classes, but who have purchased a full SRWC Membership for the summer

Students not enrolled in summer classes, but who are returning for Fall 2015 credits (and were also enrolled in Spring 2015) who purchase a Summer Intramural Pass for $5

Full-time Staff/Faculty

NOTE: Students who graduated May 2015, or incoming students new to UA for Fall 2015, will NOT be eligible to participate.

Examsoft and Windows 10

Hello,

At this time Examsoft does not officially support Windows 10.  I received this message below from them today.  If you have any questions, please contact law-support@uakron.edu.  I will keep everyone updated.  Thanks!!

Dear Key Administrator,

Microsoft recently announced that it will officially release its newest operating system, Windows 10, beginning July 29, 2015. They have announced that this will be a free upgrade for existing Windows users and that users can begin to reserve their update now.

Please note that ExamSoft does not support Windows 10 at this time. Our team of skilled developers and quality assurance testers are working to certify a version of SofTest to be used with Windows 10, however in the mean time, please DO NOT UPDATE your device. We will continue to communicate directly with the ExamSoft Administrators at your institution on our progress.

If you have any concerns, please feel free to contact our Exam Taker Support Team.
Thank you,

ExamSoft Support Team
