Collaborative Against Human Trafficking & Ohio Women’s Bar Association to Sponsor Awareness Event Oct. 16, 2015

All are invited to attend a lunch program about Human Trafficking and its tragic effects on our communities on Friday, October 16, 2015. Franklin County’s CATCH (Changing Actions to Change Habits) Court will be explained by the featured speaker, Franklin Municipal Judge Paul Herbert. There will also be a panel discussion to address Summit County’s efforts to combat human trafficking.

The event will be held at Portage Country Club, 240 N. Portage Path, Akron. Check-in  starts at 11:30AM and the program will start promptly at11:45AM and conclude at 2:45PM. Cost of lunch is $30.

Substance Abuse Lecture – Thursday, September 24

Our Fall semester Substance Abuse Lecture will be on Thursday, September 24, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Law School Room 165.

The Ohio Office of Bar Admissions requires all students to take a one-hour substance abuse lecture during law school.  Attend now to complete this requirement regardless of your year in law school. Graduating students please plan to attend if you have not yet attended a substance abuse lecture and plan to take the Ohio Bar exam.  Free substance abuse lectures are offered to the entire law student body only ONCE during the fall semester and ONCE during the spring semester.

Absolutely no admittance after 5:30 pm – please arrive early to record your attendance.

SUPREME COURT RULES FOR THE GOVERNMENT OF THE BAR OF OHIO
A certificate from a law school or a continuing legal education sponsor, certifying that the applicant has received at least one hour of instruction on substance abuse, including causes, prevention, detection, and treatment alternatives. Substance abuse instruction that is provided by a continuing legal education sponsor qualifies under this section only if it has been accredited by the Commission on Continuing Legal Education as an approved sub-stance abuse activity under Gov. Bar R. X.

For all 2nd year students, full-time and part-time:  you need to submit your Application to Register as a Candidate for Admission to the Ohio Bar to the Supreme Court of Ohio by November 16.  Join the Director of the Ohio Supreme Court Bar Admissions Office to learn how to complete your application and to have your application questions answered.  *Please Note:  to prepare for this session and your application, please complete the information HERE by Monday, September 21.

Thursday, September 24, 5:30 – 6:30 pm, Room 165  – Substance Abuse Lecture
This is for all students who plan to take the Ohio Bar at any time in the future.  You may fulfill this bar requirement at any time while you are in law school.

IMPORTANT: Ohio Bar Exam Requirements for 2Ls

ATTENTION:  All 2nd Year Full-Time & Part-Time Students who began law school in 2014

If you plan to take the Ohio Bar Exam, your Application to Register as a Candidate for Admission must be received in the Office of Bar Admissions at the Supreme Court of Ohio by November 16, 2015.

Law Student Services will provide:  (1) The “Certificate of Dean” that is prepared by Student Services to include with your application.  Please complete the information here by September 21 to request that a Certificate of Dean be prepared for you. (2) Student Services will also give you an official fingerprint card, (3) and your undergraduate transcript showing your bachelor’s degree – if you gave us 2 copies when you started law school.  If we do not have 2 copies, we will let you know, and you will have to request a hard copy of your transcript from your undergrad institution.

(2) Plan to attend the Bar Admissions Workshop on Wednesday, September 23, from 5:30 – 6:30 pm in Room 165.  The Director of the Ohio Supreme Court Office of Bar Admissions will tell you how to complete your application and answer your questions.

IMPORTANT: Ohio Bar Exam Requirements for 3Ls

If you are graduating in December and/or planning to take The February 2016 Ohio Bar Examination – The Deadline for the Supreme Court of Ohio Office of Admissions to receive your Application to Take the Bar Examination is November 2, 2015.  You must have your full application submitted by this date.

A form required as part of the application packet is the Character Certificate, which must be processed by Law Student Services and signed by Assistant Dean Ivy Banks.
