The Honorable Arthur J. Goldberg Memorial Prize in Constitutional Law

This endowed prize was established by Ann Amer Brennan, Esquire, of the class of 1982, as a permanent memorial to the Honorable Arthur J. Goldberg, Associate Justice of The Supreme Court of the United States, Secretary of Labor, and United States Representative to the United Nations.  Justice Goldberg’s willingness to come to The University of Akron School of Law and teach, as the Inaugural Holder of both the David L. Brennan Chair of Law and the John F. Seiberling Chair in Constitutional Law, is hereby acknowledged through the establishment of this memorial tribute.

In recognition of Justice Goldberg’s continued interest in women’s rights and support for the intellectual development of women lawyers, this prize is awarded annually to a graduating female (December or May combined), as determined by the Dean or his/her designee, with consideration given to the following criteria:

  1. Active interest in Constitutional Law as evidenced by course selection and extracurricular activities;
  2. Excellence in Constitutional Law as evidenced by class performance, extracurricular activities, or scholarly writings; and
  3. Leadership in the School of Law, the community, or the legal profession.

Spring 2017 female graduates interested in being considered for this prize should submit a resume and personal statement to Assistant Director of Student Affairs, Misty Franklin, misty@uakron.edu ON OR BEFORE Friday, April 21, 2017.  The prize will be awarded in May 2017.

Trial Team Information Session

Akron Law’s nationally recognized mock trial team will be holding an informational meeting on Wednesday, March 22 at 5:15 pm in Rm. 160. We will be discussing try outs for the 2017-2018 team, which will be held Saturday, April 15 at 9 am. Our coaches will be available to answer any questions students may have about the program. If you’re at all interested in trying out, come see what trial team is all about! Student Trustee Position – Applications Now Open

Today Student Government officially opened applications for the Student Trustee position that will begin their appointment on July 1, 2017.  Two information sessions will take place regarding the upcoming opening for a Student Trustee on The University of Akron’s Board of Trustees.  These sessions are scheduled for:

  • Thursday, March 16th at 4pm in Student Union Room 323; and
  • Tuesday, March 21st at 6:30pm in Student Union Room 323

This is an excellent opportunity for students to become further involved with their University, to gain leadership and managerial experience at a high level, and to shape the future of The University of Akron.  Attendance at an information session is not required, but highly encouraged for potential applicants.

The date of appointment for the new Student Trustee position will begin on July 1, 2017, for a two-year term that ends on June 30, 2019.  Interested and qualified UA students must complete an application and return it to the Undergraduate Student Government office by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 14.  Applications are available from Undergraduate Student Government, SU 307a, or online at http://www.uakron.edu/usg.

Five nominees will be selected from the applicant pool and submitted to President Wilson, who will review and forward nominee applications and resumes to the Governor of Ohio, who has sole authority to make the final appointment decision.
