AkronLawJobs No. 7236 Overview: The U.S. Department of Justice has an opening for AT LEAST ONE LEGAL INTERN with the Executive Office for Immigration Review’s Cleveland Immigration Court for Fall 2016.
Duties: Issues commonly before the Court include eligibility for asylum, cancellation of removal, and adjustment of status as well as issues regarding whether an individual is removable from the U.S. based on a criminal conviction. The types of projects assigned to legal interns vary depending on the Court’s docket, and may entail Drafting decision on applications for relief from removal or removability; Performing in-depth research and analysis of novel legal issues; and Preparing bench memoranda. The internship provides students with an excellent opportunity to develop their research, writing, and analytical skills and increase their knowledge of immigration law. The interns will be able to observe removal hearings and work on cases involving several forms of relief including asylum, adjustment of status, and cancellation of removal. The interns will work directly under the supervision of the Judicial Law Clerk / Attorney Advisor and will also work with individual immigration judges. This is an unpaid, volunteer position. Students interested in receiving stipends or academic
credit from their law school should contact the appropriate person at their law school to determine their eligibility.
Qualifications: 1L, 2L. MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN. The Court is located in downtown Cleveland. Must work a minimum of ten (10) hours per week. Prior knowledge of immigration law is helpful but not absolutely necessary; Strong research and writing skills are required; Successful completion of an FBI background check is required before interns can begin work. Paid position with Akron Law Clinic Juvenile Reentry Assistance Program (JRAP) grant

The legal clinic seeks a paid student to work with its new Juvenile Reentry Assistance Program (JRAP) grant. The grant will assist youth (14-24) involved in the justice system to find jobs and housing. The student must commit to up to 6 hours per week. Summer Law Clerk Position with US Acute Care Solutions (Canton) – great opportunity for those interested in health law!

POSITION TITLE: Summer Law Clerk / Intern
DEPARTMENT: Legal Department
Location: Canton, OH

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction and oversight of the Legal Department leadership, the Law Clerk will assist the attorneys in the department with legal services, including performing and organizing legal research, document drafting and other projects. It is helpful, but not required, if the candidate had health care related compliance experience or has taken health law classes. This is a paid summer Law Clerk position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Ability to independently research Federal and state laws and regulations.
• Ability to organize, analyze and present legal research.
• Assist with reviewing, drafting, and/or proofing legal documents and templates including hospital, employment and vendor contracts.
• Assist in creating a compliance “frequently asked questions” library.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Working understanding of legal research, including Federal and state research.
• Strong legal writing skills.
• Strong computer skills.
• Ability to work closely with the attorneys or staff to complete assignments in an efficient and timely manner – a self-starter.
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A law student who has completed his or her second year of law school preferred; however, will consider a first year law student who has a healthcare compliance background or experience.
