Street Law Program Seeks Volunteers

To all students: The Akron Bar Association is looking for volunteers for the Street Law Program.  Street Law is an award-winning, law-related outreach program taught by Summit County high schools.  The Akron Bar Association Street Law Committee has partnered with area schools, the University of Akron School of Law, government offices, and various community organizations to establish Street Law as a high school elective course.  As a volunteer, you will serve as a resource to the teachers teaching Street Law.  You will be in contact with the teacher you are assigned to and may be asked general questions or to come and help teach a class.  Through this you will gain valuable networking experience by working closely with the attorneys who are assigned as resources as well.  If interested, please email streetlaw@akronbar.org

Community Service Limited Means Volunteer Opportunity!

This community service project is presented in partnership with Big Brothers and Sisters of Summit and Medina Counties as part of the BBBSMC’s after-school “Sidekicks” program.  This opportunity is available for upper level law students who are interested in mentoring an elementary school student in our community.  It will take place every Thursday afternoon from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Mason Elementary School, which is located only a short distance from the law school.  Volunteers will assist elementary school students in completing homework and will participate in group games, activities and other social interactions.   Because each volunteer will be assigned to a particular student, you must be able to attend the program each Thursday afternoon during the school year while classes are being held (attendance is not necessary during reading and exam periods or holidays).

If you are interested in participating in this program, please contact Professor Shaver at eas68@uakron.edu.  For more information about Big Brothers/Big Sisters, visit http:\\bbbssmc.org.
