IMPORTANT BAR EXAMINATION INFORMATION & UPCOMING DEADLINES

ATTENTION:   ALL 2nd YEAR FULL-TIME & PART-TIME STUDENTS

If you plan to take the Ohio Bar Exam and have not already done so, your Application to Register as a Candidate for Admission to the Practice of Law must be RECEIVED in the Office of Bar Admissions at the Supreme Court of Ohio by November 15.

 Your required Ohio Bar Certificate of Dean (available on the application link above) must be submitted to Liz Wascak in the law school dean’s office for processing. When your  Certificate of Dean is returned, you will receive an official fingerprint card and instructions where to get fingerprinted.

 These forms take time to process, so please submit in a timely fashion.  Processing in our office and your submission to the bar (mailing time) need to be considered.

To get information about bar admission requirements or to apply for admission to the bar, contact the appropriate jurisdiction. Most jurisdictions have information available via their own websites found at http://www.ncbex.org/bar-admissions/offices.

 

Just like Ohio’s certificates, other state’s law school certificates must be submitted to the law school dean’s office, College Program Specialist / Law Registrar Liz Wascak for processing.

If you plan to be enrolled for more than the above-chart allows, and have not already received permission from Assistant Dean Thorpe to do so, you must submit the Overload Permission Request Form (click HERE) prior to the start of summer term. 

Return this permission request form as soon as possible to Liz Sauders liz@uakron.edu in the Dean’s Office, Room 136.  Once reviewed by Assistant Dean Thorpe, I will notify you of her decision.

May 2012 JD Degree Candidates Preparing to Take the July 2012 Ohio Bar Examination

The following certificate forms for the Ohio Bar Examination have approaching deadlines.  These forms must be certified by the law school, then submitted to the Court so that eligibility to sit for the Ohio Bar Examination may be established. Please check these upcoming deadlines and be sure to submit your forms in time to allow for our processing.  These forms must be submitted to me, Liz Sauders in The Office of Law Student Services, Dean’s Office, Room 136 of the law building.

  •  Law School Character Certificate:  You may drop off the Law School Character Certificate at the law school receptionist.  I will prepare the certificate for Dean Thorpe’s signature. The certificate form will be returned to you so that you may include it in your application packet to the Court.  The deadline to be received (not postmarked) at the Court as per their website:

NOTE: The Office of Bar Admissions does not process applications to take a bar exam until the previous exam has been administered. April. 2, 2012 is the deadline for filing applications to take the July 2012 bar exam. The dates for the July 2012 bar examination are July 24, 25, and 26

  • Final Law School Certificate You may drop off the Final Law School Certificate any time prior to the end of spring semester.  I will hold it until graduation on Sunday, May 13, 2012, then send it directly to the Supreme Court of Ohio on Monday, May 14.
  •  Substance Abuse Instruction Certificate:  You do not need to submit this form to us for completion.  Substance abuse lectures are available two times a year as a school offering from Akron Law.  Therefore, if you attended one of the lectures, we include the completion of this one hour of substance instruction on your Final Law School Certificate.  If you have not attended one of the law school’s Substance Abuse Lectures, make-up lectures are not available through The University of Akron School of Law. Lectures are scheduled through Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA) for a fee. Contact their office at 1-800-282-6556.
