This scholarship is part of The Richard Linn American Inn of Court’s commitment to fostering the development of intellectual property lawyers of high ethics, civility and professionalism, and especially those from diverse backgrounds.

The recipient of the scholarship receives $5,000 to be applied to their legal education.  This scholarship is available to law students who have entered into a JD program at an ABA-accredited law school in the United States and who will continue in that program through the Fall semester 2016.  Scholarship recipients are selected by the Mark T. Banner Scholarship review board based on the following criteria:

*Commitment to the pursuit of a career in intellectual property law.

*Commitment, qualities and actions toward ethics, civility and professionalism.

*Academic merit (undergraduate, graduate and law school).

*Written and oral communication skills.

*Leadership qualities and community involvement.

*Member of a historically under represented group in IP law (including race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation and disability).

Now that the fall semester is well underway, I’d like to present you with an opportunity to apply for upper division scholarship assistance.

During the 2014-15 academic year, more than $100,000 was distributed to Akron Law students in the form of upper division scholarship assistance. This scholarship assistance is made possible through the generosity of alumni and friends of Akron Law. Some scholarships are awarded to recognize high academic achievement, others are awarded on the basis of financial need, and others are distributed to students who have a particular area of interest or affiliation.

Please take a few moments to review all of the scholarship offerings that are available to upper division students and apply to those for which you would like to be considered. A complete listing of scholarships and the application may be found at uakron.edu/ud-scholarship. Please submit your application by Sunday, October 18, 2015. Unless otherwise requested, all upper division scholarship assistance will be applied to Spring 2016 tuition.

Pickard, Parry, Pfau is a Las Vegas-based law firm looking to give back to the community. As two of the three partners at our firm are left-handed, we decided to offer a Southpaw Scholarship for $1,500.

The Donald Memorial Legal Scholarship was established by Houston criminal defense attorney Lisa Shapiro Strauss in honor of her late grandfather, Martin Donald. Mr. Donald was a Holocaust survivor, fighter, and honorable man – who embodied strength, character and justice.  Any student pursuing a college education in criminal justice law who has at minimum a 3.0 GPA is eligible to apply.

A $2,000 award will be given to one winning student. Essay Topic What are your reasons for pursuing a career in criminal justice law? Explain your views on reforming the criminal justice system and any new ideas in doing so. The essay should be between 1,000-1,500 words.
