Fellowship Opportunity

I’m writing to let you know about The Robert Masur Fellowship for Civil Liberties, open to first-year law students. Offered annually by The Nation Institute, it consists of a $1000 honorarium for students who intend to carry out significant activities during the summer (in between their first and second year) in the areas of civil rights and/or civil liberties. Proposed activities may include a writing or research project, work with a public interest organization in the areas of civil rights or civil liberties, work on a civil rights or civil liberties law case under the supervision of a faculty member or lawyer, or any other work in the areas of civil rights or civil liberties.

Applicants should send a proposal, no more than two pages, describing his or her intended summer project, along with a resume, a brief letter of recommendation, and the name of their faculty or organizational sponsor to:

Federal Work-Study Money Available to Law Students During Summer

College Work Study is available on a first-come first-served basis for Summer 2010. College Work Study is a federally funded program based on financial need available to undergraduate students only, except during the summer months when we open it up to all students when funding allows.

Maximum earning potential is $5,400 based upon “need” as determined by the Expected Family Contribution. College Work Study positions are posted on line at http://www.uakron.edu/finaid from the menu select Student Employment.

Students must have a 2010-2011 FAFSA on file at time of application, and complete a 2010 Summer Aid Application. A minimum 2.5 g.p.a is required. The summer aid application deadline is June 1.

Scholarship Opportunities – Stark Community Foundation

Please be advised that scholarship dollars are available for law students from Stark County, Ohio, through four
legal scholarship funds at Stark Community Foundation. The scholarship opportunities are as follows:

The Judge and Mrs. Robert D. Horowitz Legal Scholarship Fund – applicants must demonstrate a background ofpublic service through volunteer activities or work experience.

The Samuel Krugliak Legal Scholarship Fund – applicants must have a desire to pursue the practice of law in the Stark County region.

The Sanders J. Mestel Legal Scholarship Fund – applicant must be a third year law student with an interest in trial advocacy.

The Stark County Bar Association Scholarship Fund – applicant is likely to return to Stark County to practice law.

by dollar award, number of awards per year and complexity of criteria for selection.

Cook/Rutledge Fellowship

The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, Office of Minority and Multicultural Health, is announcing its summer 2010 Cook/Rutledge Fellowship. The fellowships are open to graduate students who are residents of New Jersey and who are now enrolled in a New Jersey university or college or attending an out of state university or college. Students must be enrolled in a school of medicine, law school or in a graduate Public Health Program. The Fellowship provides a stipend of $6,000 that is contingent upon availability of state funds. Students who have graduated or completed their programs before June can not apply. Fellows are expected to commit to and complete full-time, supervised ten to twelve week projects at the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services in Trenton. All 2010 Cook/Rutledge Fellowship application forms and attachments must be completed and returned by April 16, 2010. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Mahoning County Bar Association Scholarship

The Mahoning County Bar Foundation is a non-profit organization, primarily funded by the members of the Mahoning County Bar Association. Each year it funds scholarships for persons having substantial ties to the Mahoning Valley who are about to enter, or who have already entered, law school. These scholarships typically range from $1,000-2,000 and will be paid directly to the law school toward your tuition.
