Applications are now being accepted for the 2011-2012 Robert E. Donovan Memorial Scholarship.  (APPLICATION AVAILABLE HERE!)

Robert Donovan died in a plane crash over Bosnia on April 3, 1996.  The plane crash killed the U.S. commerce secretary and 33 other leaders who were on a trade mission to help rebuild the war-ravaged country once called Yugoslavia.  Robert’s daughter, Kara Donovan, was in her final semester at The University of Akron School of Law at the time of her father’s death.

Academic merit and financial need will be considered by the Donovan Scholarship Committee.

Scholarship Opportunity – Ohio Women’s Bar Foundation

The Ohio Women’s Bar Foundation (OWBF) will be granting a scholarship in the amount of$I,OOO to one law student for the 20 11-12 school year. The deadline for submission is March 31,2011 and the scholarship will be presented to the winner at Ohio Women’s Bar Association Annual function in May in Columbus, Ohio. Date: TBA

The OWBF and the OWBA work closely together. Formed in 2008, the Ohio Women’s Bar Foundation mission is to research, analyze, compile, publish and distribute educational materials to enable women attomeys and those interested in encouraging women attorneys to become more proficient in their profession with the assistance of their local and national woman’s bar associations. The OWBA is a 501 (c) (3).

The Ohio Women’s Bar Association (OWBA) was formed in 1991 in order to build a community oflawyers who are interested in the issues that uniquely affect women. The OWBA will be celebrating its 20th year. The mission of the OWBA is to promote the leadership, advancement and interests ofwomcll attorneys through professional education, networking and the exchange of ideas between our members, local bar associations, business and the community.

This includes:

  • Fostering communications and networking among women attorneys.
  • Promoting and advancing professional opportunities for women attorneys.
  • Promoting the appointment and selection of women to various federal, state and local positions of influence.
  • Promoting women as leaders.
  • Promoting and providing continuing legal education targeting areas ofpmiicular interest to women attorneys.
  • Monitoring and supporting government legislation, policies. and practices affecting women.
  • Serving as a statewide resource representing perspectives of women in the legal profession.

The Akron Bar Foundation is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for scholarships for the 2011-2012 academic year. The Akron Bar Foundation provides scholarships to law students based on grade point average, affiliation with Summit County, history of community involvement, and financial need. Applications must be postmarked no later than Thursday, April 7, 2011. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered for an award. Qualified applicants will be contacted to arrange for an interview, which will take place at the end of April.

Scholarship Opportunity – J. Andrew Fulker Memorial Scholarship

The Scholarship Committee of the Miami County Bar Association announces it is currently receiving applications for scholarship grants from the J. Andrew Fulker Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Fund was established, in cooperation with the Troy Foundation, as a lasting tribute to Troy Attorney J. Andrew Fulker who died in an auto accident in 1989.

Andy Fulker was a 1971 graduate of Troy High School. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from The Ohio State University in 1976 and his Juris Doctor degree from California Western School of Law in 1979. He was admitted to the practice of law in Ohio in 1979 and became a partner in the Troy law firm of Faust, Harrelson, Fulker & McCarthy. He served as Assistant Municipal Prosecutor for the City of Troy from 1979 to 1982 and as counsel for the Miami County Planning and Zoning Boards from 1979 through 1981. He was a member of the Miami County, Ohio State, and American Bar Associations, the Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys.

The scholarship fund is designed to assist deserving law students who are residents of Miami County. Recipients of J. Andrew Fulker Memorial Scholarship grants will be selected by the Scholarship Committee of the Miami County Bar Association. Grants will be used for law school tuition. To be eligible an applicant must be admitted for fulltime attendance at a college of law or law school in a program designed to lead to a Juris Doctor or similar law degree.
