REMINDER: Deadline for OACTA Student Diversity Scholarships is APRIL 20

The Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys, (OACTA) announced its new annual Law Student Diversity Scholarship program is open to incoming second arid third-year African American, Hispanic, Asian, Pan Asian and Native American students enrolled at Ohio law schools. Incoming second and third-year female law students enrolled at Ohio law schools are also eligible regardless of race or ethnicity. Other criteria tor the scholarship include the following:

Academic achievement in law school

Professional interest in civil defense practice

Service to community and to the cause of diversity

Up to two scholarships ihthe amount of $1,250 each will be awarded to successful applicants. Applicants are required to submit a completed application, law school transcript, and a cover letter addressing the following: academic, personal and professional accomplishments, and why they should be selected as a recipient of the scholarship. Applicants may submit up to three letters of recommendation. The completed application and all other requested matetial must be received by April 20, 2011. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Winners will be announced at the OACTA Seminar held in June 2011. Successful applicants will be notified in advance of the conference. Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the OACTA Annual Meeting in November. The 2011 OACTA Law Student Diversity Scholarship Application is available at at www.oacta.org.

Scholarship Opportunity – Mahoning County Bar Association Scholarship

The Mahoning County Bar Foundation is a non-profit organization, primarily funded by the members of the Mahoning County Bar Association.  Each year it funds scholarships for persons having substantial ties to the Mahoning Valley who are about to enter, or who have already entered, law school.  These scholarships typically range from $1,000-2,000 and will be paid directly to the law school toward your tuition.  Each scholarship applicant is requested to provide the information set out on the application form.

Subject: Akron Bar Foundation Now Accepting Scholarship Applications

The Akron Bar Foundation is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for scholarships for the 2011-2012 academic year. The Akron Bar Foundation provides scholarships to law students based on grade point average, affiliation with Summit County, history of community involvement, and financial need. Applications must be postmarked no later than Thursday, April 7, 2011. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered for an award. Qualified applicants will be contacted to arrange for an interview, which will take place at the end of April.

Subject: Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Fund

 In 1978 the Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Fund was established by Helen and Richard Fox and Friends to honor the memory of their son who, as a proud member of the Berks County Bar Association, served as a young attorney in the Public Defender’s Office.

 The Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Award of $3,000 is presented annually at the Berks County Bar Association Law Day Event.  It is given to help fund a deserving Berks County, Pennsylvania, resident embarking on his or her second year at an accredited Law School.

 In June 2000, the Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Fund was transferred to the Berks County Community Foundation to manage and administer.

 The Berks County Community Foundation is a nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to develop, manage and distribute funding to meet existing and emerging community needs.  Through permanent endowments created from charitable gifts, the Community Foundation makes grants from the earnings of the endowment.  By keeping the principal balance of the funds intact and spending only earnings, the Community Foundation ensures a lasting and stable vehicle for the support and development of Berks County.
