Gay Straight Law Alliance meeting on April 18th

The Gay Straight Law Alliance (GLSA) will be holding their final meeting of the semester on April 18th at 5:15 p.m. in L160.  Elections for the Executive Board will take place along with setting the organization’s goals for the upcoming year.  Both nominations and elections will be held during this meeting and you can nominate yourself, so if you are interested in becoming an Executive Officer, make sure that you are in attendance.  Light snacks will be provided.

Rescheduling Exams

Please review the posted Spring 2017 exam schedule.

Generally:  You may reschedule a free-slot or scheduled exam if you have an exam conflict or otherwise meet the stated policy**, if you have a doctor-confirmed illness, or in case of an emergency during the time set for the exam.  If you want to reschedule a set exam, you must submit a Rescheduling Form to the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs.

**An examination conflict consists if two examinations are scheduled at the same time or three examinations are scheduled within 24 hours.  Part-time students who have examinations on both the first Wednesday and the first Friday of exam period, and full-time students who have three examinations between the first Wednesday and Sunday of the exam period are also granted relief, at the option.

Unexpected Illness:  Students who are ill may contact the Assistant Director of Student Affairs to reschedule an examination BEFORE the time of the examination.  Once a student begins an examination, the student must complete that examination and receive that grade.

Examinations that are rescheduled due to conflict or illness must be rescheduled within the exam period at the earliest available time.  If illness prevents rescheduling during exam period, the examination must be scheduled no later than the start of the next semester.  Students who cannot reschedule an examination before the next semester should consult with the Assistant Director of Student Affairs.

DEADLINE TO SUBMIT DUE TO CONFLICT: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19, 2017.

Moot Court Internal Competition: April 22

On Saturday, April 22, The University of Akron School of Law Moot Court Honor Society will be holding its annual Internal Competition. This is an intramural competition to determine which law student is the best at oral argumentation (no brief writing involved) with cash prizes awarded to the top two competitors. The Competition will begin promptly at 1 p.m. and is open to all law students, including 1Ls.

Participants will be given a short problem and must prepare a ten minute oral argument for both the petitioner and respondent. Which side of the case you will be arguing will only be revealed shortly before each round begins. Arguments will be presented to a panel of judges who will ask questions and score each competitor.

Competitors can register until April 21, but the sooner you register, the more time you will have to construct your arguments. The problem will be available as soon as you register. To register, or if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please email Jacob Nicholas at jpn24@zips.uakron.edu.
