Research Assistant Position

Professor Tracy Thomas, Director of the Center for Constitutional Law at Akron, seeks to hire two research assistants beginning January 1, 2017.  Each RA would be expected to work 5 hours per week onsite at the Western Reserve Archives in Cleveland (open Thurs., Fri., and Sat.).  The work involves collecting and reviewing historical court and attorney documents about the Women’s Litigation Fund and its groundbreaking work on gender equality in education and employment in the 1970s.  The position runs from early January until the end of April 2017 and pays a stipend of $1000 for the semester.  If interested, please submit your resume and statement of interest to Professor Thomas at thomast@uakron.edu.  Application considered on a rolling basis until the positions are filled.

Corporate and Business Law Society’s Attorney Mixer

If you plan to attend, RSVP through this survey and let us know what you’d like to eat.  See you then!

Expungement Clinic Seeking Student Volunteers

The Expungement Clinic helps low-income Summit County residents seal the record of their criminal convictions.  A sealed record enables many people better access to jobs, housing, and volunteer opportunities.  Students will learn integral skills in the legal field including filing paperwork with the court, drafting motions, interviewing real clients, and communicating with clients both through the mail and over the phone. Students who are eligible for a legal intern certificate will have ample opportunities to appear in court and present an oral argument.     A student commitment to the Expungement Clinic can be for as few or as many hours as the student pleases.  We do ask that you commit to at least one of our upcoming Saturday Outreach Clinics so we know how many volunteers we will have at each clinic.

UPCOMING CLINICS:

Saturday November 12, 2016

Arlington Church of God

8:00am-12:00pm

All hours qualify as ProBono Limited Means.     There will be a mandatory training session. We will schedule the training the week of November 7-11, once we receive feedback from volunteers. Please indicate your availability for training in the email. The training is approximately 30 minutes.  Interested students or questions please RSVP to Professor Staab at hstaab@uakron.edu.
