This is a reminder that you must register each semester with the Office of Accessibility in order to receive your classroom and exam accommodations. Please refer to the information below which is copied from the Office of Accessibility Student Handbook. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Accessibility directly at 330:972-7928.
Requesting Accommodations and Services Each Semester
After students have registered with this office and have met with their disability specialist, students will need to request accommodation letters and services for each semester that they plan to use them.
1. Schedule your classes by meeting with your academic advisor or independently registering on-line or in person. We suggest you schedule as soon as possible. We also recommend students view the “Suggestions as you Prepare to Meet with an Academic Advisor” handout on page 10.
2. Check to see if any eligible accommodations have request deadlines. Deadlines are located at www.uakron.edu/access or by calling our office. Many accommodations have deadlines in order to have sufficient time to coordinate your services. For any questions about deadlines, students may contact their disability specialist. Please note that if a deadline is missed, services will not be denied, but accommodations may take significantly longer to implement.
3. Visit the Student Testing and Accommodation Request System (STARS) website, https://gunadiframework.com/akron/, and complete the “3 Step Process to Request Accommodations.” If students need assistance, please contact the office or utilize the “How to Request Accommodation Letters” tutorial.
* Students must clearly mark the accommodations needed for each class.
4. The office will verify the student’s eligibility for the services they are requesting.
