Two tickets left for this Friday’s Women in Law Fashion Show

The University of Akron School of Law Office of External Programs has purchased a table for ten to the Second Annual Women in Law Fashion Show, hosted by the Women in Law Section of the Akron Bar Association. The fashion show, featuring professional dress for men and women, including vintage designs, will be held this Friday, November 11, 2011 at 6 p.m. at Portage Country Club.

We have two free tickets remaining for this great event. If you would like one of these tickets, please e-mail Jeanne Kennedy in the CPPO at jeanne2@uakron.edu ASAP. The first two students to e-mail Ms. Kennedy will receive the tickets.  The subject line of your e-mail should be Women in Law Fashion Show.

This event is sure to be a night of fun and fashion!

Law and Leadership Institute seeks to hire law student

The Law and Leadership Institute seeks a law student to teach eleventh grade students. The Law and Leadership Institute introduces promising high school students from under-served urban communities in Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Toledo to the legal profession through an intensive college preparatory program on law and leadership. The student hired would join a law student currently teaching in the program. You must be available to teach on the following dates: January 26, 2012 (4:00-6:30 p.m.), January 27, 2012 (4:00-6:30 p.m.), February 2, 2012 (4:00-6:30 p.m.), February 3, 2012 (4:00-6:30 p.m.), February 11, 2011, February 18, 2011, March 3, 2011, March 24, 2011 and March 31, 2011.  The compensation is $115.00 per class. If you are interested in applying for the position, please e-mail a cover letter, resume and writing sample to Professor Joann Sahl, jsahl1@uakron.edu. Your cover letter should detail any teaching experience or experience working with at-risk youth. Applications are due by Monday, November 21, 2011. The Virginia Wagner Award Opportunity

The Soroptimist International of Canton/Stark County again this year is offering the Virginia Wagner Award to aid a student in undergraduate or graduate school.  This program fulfills one of Soroptimist’s goals . . . “to strive for human rights for all people, and, in particular, to advance the status of women.”

The Virginia Wagner Award winner is eligible for a cash award of First place – $550 and Second place – $500 from the local club.  The local club winner is eligible for an additional award if they are the first place winner in the region.

The following weighted guidelines are used in selecting a winner:

  1. Scholarship (Weight 15)
  2. Extra Curricular Activities (Weight 15)
  3. Financial need (Weight 15)
  4. Effort Toward Education (Weight 35)
  5. General Impression (Weight 20)
