National Trial Advocacy Competition Update

Here is an update about the National Trial Advocacy Competition held October 25-18 at Michigan State University. Representing Akron were Laci Mason (3L), Michael Karst (3L), Maxwell Hiltner (3L), and Susan Mills-Martinez (2L). During the three preliminary rounds, Akron competed against Creighton University School of Law, University of Pittsburgh School of Law, and The John Marshall Law School.  After a great showing in the preliminary rounds, the first cut went from 26 teams to 8. Akron was one of the 8 teams to move on to the quarter-finals.  In the quarter-finals, Akron competed against Georgia State College of Law.  After a grueling and competitive match up, Akron split the judges but fell to Georgia State.

This was the first time Akron made the quarter-finals at the NTAC competition.  Laci, Michael, Max, and Susan represented Akron and Akron’s trial team well. Please congratulate them for their achievement at MSU.

NTAC was coached by Caryn Peterson (’07) and Aaron Howell (’06).

REMINDER – SBA Kick-It Kickball Tournament is Tomorrow!

Attention all law students and friends,

As if you did not need more reason to show up to play kick ball tomorrow,  all players will receive community service hours for the time that they are there!

Rain or shine we will be at Buchtel fields and we will make sure tomorrow is a fantastic event raising money for a worthwhile cause.

Akron Law Student Bar Association will be hosting a kick-it tournament on October 27,  from 12:00 to 4:00 at Buchtel Fields.Kick-It was founded by a 10-year old cancer patient with a big dream- to cure cancer by playing kickball. Now a national fundraising program, Kick-it raises money for pediatric, adolescent and young adult cancer research. Funds raised benefit children’s cancer research across the country. Kick-it partners with national medical advisory boards to identify the most promising research studies and projects.

Sign up sheets are still posted outside of the SBA office.  There is a $10 per player fee and this money will go to the kick-it organization in order to continue funding cancer research.  We welcome everyone to come out and showcase your kickball skills!  Food and drinks will be provided.

All sign up sheets and cash or checks can be brought to Buchtel Fields Saturday at noon. We look forward to seeing everyone out on Buchtel filed having fun and doing something for a great cause at the same time!
