Pro Bono Limited Means Opportunity!

The Summit County Juvenile court seeks law students who can volunteer at the Attorney Help Desk every Wednesday from 1-4:30. It is not necessary that you volunteer every Wednesday. The law student would assist clients with completing pro se forms in custody or delinquency issues. The court will provide training. The court would prefer a second or third year student who has taken juvenile and/or family law, but will consider all interested volunteers. Developing Your Corporate Legal Department Skills – during the January 2013 intersession, Akron Law will offer a seminar entitled “Corporate Legal Department Skills Development.”  This seminar is designed to teach law students some of the skills needed to succeed as part of a corporate in-house legal team. Kevin C. Krull (’77), Vice President of Business Operations and General Counsel with International Data Group, Inc., will teach the seminar.

Mr. Krull will visit Akron Law on Thursday, October 18 to speak to students about this seminar and explain employment opportunities that may be available to those who successfully complete the seminar. The information session will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 12:20 and 5:15 in Room 133.

The Honorable Arthur J. Goldberg Memorial Prize in Constitutional Law

This endowed prize was established by Ann Amer Brennan, Esquire, of the class of 1982, as a permanent memorial to the Honorable Arthur J. Goldberg.  Associate Justice of The Supreme Court of the United States, Secretary of Labor, and United States Representative to the United Nations.  Justice Goldberg’s willingness to come to The University of Akron School of Law and tech, as the Inaugural Holder of both the David L. Brennan Chair and the John F. Seiberling Chair in Constitutional Law, is hereby acknowledged through the establishment of this memorial tribute.

In recognition of Justice Goldberg’s continued interest in women’s rights and support for the intellectual development of women lawyers, this prize is awarded annually to a graduating senior woman (December and May combined), as determined by the Dean or his/her designee, with consideration given to the following criteria:

  1. Active interst in Constitutional Law as evidenced by course selection and extracurricular activities;
  2. Excellence in Constitutional Law as evidenced by class performance, extracurricular activities, or scholarly writing; and
  3. Leadership in the School of Law, the community, or the legal profession.

FAll 2012 female graduates interested in being considered for this prize should submit a resume and personal statement to Mrs. Misty D. Franklin, College Program Specialist, Dean’s Office, ON OR BEFORE NOVEMBER 19, 2012.  The prize will be awarded in May 2013.
