Fall 2012 Akron Law Public Interest Law Program: Applications for the Fall  2012 Public Interest Law (PIL) Program are due on Monday, September 17 at 12 noon.  The Public Interest Law Program supports and encourages those students who would like to gain experience in public interest areas. Recent local placements have included:

 If you think you would like to do this work, but have no idea how to line up a placement, please feel free to call upon Professor Koosed (statewide agencies), Professor Carro (Akron), Career Planning Director, Barbara C. Weinzierl, Esq. (general) or Assistant Career Planning Director, Alisa Benedict O’Brien.  The deadline to submit your application for fall 2012 funding is Monday, September 17 at 12:00 Noon.  It is expected that you will secure a placement in advance of submitting your application.

 The application form is to be filled out by the student/applicant.  The organization that will employ you as a volunteer law clerk and will provide supervision will need to confirm that in a letter on their letterhead/stationary.  They will need to include your start date, end date, number of hours per week on average, supervisor’s name, and a sentence describing your anticipated duties.  This letter also needs to be submitted by the application deadline of Monday, September 17, 2012 at 12:00 Noon.

Community Service – Limited Means Opportunity!

The Project Homeless Connect 5K, 10K Run and 5K “Walk On Water” will be held at Summit Lake on October 13th at 9:00 a.m.  Volunteers are needed to help with registration, passing out t-shirts, goodie bags and water, serving food, assisting with awards, photographing the event and being timers.  If you are interested in volunteering, please send an e-mail to Fred Berry at fberry@infolineinc.org.

SELS – ‘Legal Perspectives of the Entertainment Industry’ – 9/17/12 at 12:20pm

The Sports & Entertainment Law Society will be hosting the event “Legal Perspectives of the Entertainment Industry” this Monday, Sept. 17th, at 12:20 in room W-214.   

Local attorney David Thomas will provide insight on his experience in the field of Entertainment Law and also answer any questions. Mr. Thomas has detailed experience in film production negotiations, intellectual property, licensing, distribution deals, and various other areas.  

This will be a great opportunity for anyone interested in Sports or Entertainment Law to get a practical idea of what the legal work entails!
