Oct. 22, 2010 – National Pro Bono Week Fundraiser

On Friday October 22, 2010 as part of National Pro Bono week, the School of Law will sponsor a fundraising event here at the Law School. The money raised will go to  Community Legal Aid . As you know that organization services a multi -county area in Northeast Ohio, representing civil litigants who otherwise would not have access to counsel. We will offer hamburgers and hotdogs beginning at 5 p.m. outside the School in the grassy and paved areas outside West Hall or in the lobby in the event of inclement weather. Cost will be $4.00 per plate.  We will also have a cornhole tournament pitting student teams against faculty teams at a cost of $5.00 per person . The winners will receive tokens of appreciation. Finally, there will be an inflatable game( a jousting pit) where students may attempt to best selected faculty members. Cost for that will be $5.00 per student per try.

We already have eight faculty members signed up to cook, play cornhole and/or joust with you. The faculty members are confident that they will prevail in both the jousting  and the cornhole tournament.

This is a worthy cause and will be promoted nationwide and locally.

More information will be forthcoming. Please reserve the date and time.

IPTLA – Patent Bar Review Presentation – Sept. 17, 12:15 pm

IPTLA will be holding a meeting on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 12:15pm in room W-214. Jim Longacre will be discussing a new Patent Bar Review Course that he has developed and would like to present to the law students at the University of Akron School of Law at a substantial discount. Mr. Longacre has been helping people through the PTO exam for more than forty years. He taught for Patent Resources Group (PRG) for many years and created the present day PLI program. This new program is modular, efficient and affordable. Mr. Longacre will talk about how not only to pass, but make your exam preparation efficient and he will talk about the profession and getting a job in these tough times. The intention is to provide a 3 to 3.5 day review course that will be taught in December right after finals (probably December 13-16). The review course will include a Study Guide keyed to the MPEP, 30 hours of downloadable videos and phone apps. The review will structure the entire 150 hours of preparation for the Patent Bar. Mr. Longacre will also make himself available by email to answer any questions. Also, check out www.longacrepatentbarreview.wordpress.com which provides solid advice tutorials every few days for patent bar preparation. Food will be provided.
