DOJ Webinars and Information Fair

The Office of Attorney Recruitment and Management (OARM) will host three programs for you and your students over the summer:

  • A Wednesday Webinar Series for law students and eligible graduates to hear directly from DOJ components participating in the Attorney General’s Honors Program and learn more about their work and what they look for in an applicant! (See below for details.)
  • DOJ Updates Webinar, Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at 2:00 PM EST, exclusively for Law School Career Development Professionals where you can get the answers to your questions about the Attorney General’s Honors Program and Summer Law Intern Program.
  • The U.S. Department of Justice Career Information Fair, Thursday, July 11, 2019, at 3:00 PM EST. The annual Career Information Fair is an opportunity for law students interested in the Honors Program (HP), Summer Law Intern Program (SLIP), and volunteer legal internships to learn more about the many offices and components at DOJ.  There is no interviewing at the fair, but attendees meet attorneys from throughout the Department and can ask questions.  The RSVP opens on June 19, 2019 at 12:00 PM EST,  see attached flyer.

Bar prep opportunity for rising 2, 3, and 4Ls

One of the components of the Uniform Bar Exam (and most state bar exams) is the Multistate Performance Test (MPT). The test is a closed universe test (you don’t have to know any law), that allows you to demonstrate how well you can perform like a lawyer. It is a deceptively challenging task – and most examinees don’t respect how dificult it is, until it is too late to master the necessary skills.

You have the opportunity to change that!

For the next 2 Saturdays (June 1 & June 8), from 2:00 – 5:00, Academic Success is offering an extended MPT workshop. We’ll tackle three MPTs over the two weekends. You’ll be exposed to the most common tasks (letters, memos, and litigation documents) and at least one uncommon task (drafting interrogatories, writing a will, reviewing a contract or a policy for a customer).

There is homework for the first workshop – a first draft of the March v. Betts MPT (assigned on Friday to the students who are studying for the July bar exam). Let me know if you need a copy.

Sign up here to let me know you’re coming (or to let me know the dates don’t work for you, but you would be interested at a different time).

In addition to the Extended MPT Workshop, we’ll be starting an MPT-of-the-month club. Stay tuned for details!

Echard Marquette, P.C. Trial Advocacy Scholarship

Echard Marquette, P.C. is excited to announce the 2019 Trial Lawyer Scholarship. We’re proud of the work we do representing injured people. That’s why we want to support other trial lawyers in training. Our scholarship is for $1,000.

It is open to first and second year law students. There is a strong preference (but not a requirement) for students who intend to practice personal injury law in western Pennsylvania.

One award will be made.  All details may be found here.
