AkronLawJobs No. 8262 Overview: The Law Clerk internship is a unique one-year, paid, part-time opportunity to work closely in an in-house position with the Legal Department, the Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, and the Director of Human Resources gaining valuable experience in multiple areas of civil and criminal law.
Duties: The Law Clerk will engage in research and writing legal memoranda on various topics, review documents, assist with the preparation of criminal hearings and trials, attend court hearings, provide general office and administrative duties, including updating files and records, and calendaring and tracking deadlines. Research and write memorandum or policies on a wide range of issues. Review and/or draft contracts and contract amendments. Assist with the preparation of criminal hearings and trials. Attend court hearings, pre-trials, and trials. Assist in processing Public Records Requests and Worker’s Compensation matters. Lend support in procurement process including, but not limited to, drafting of Request for Proposals, Requests for Qualifications, Requests for Information and bidding documents. Maintains and analyzes federal, state and local legislation affecting Cleveland Metroparks. Provides training and development activities to Cleveland Metroparks staff, as required. Provide general office and administrative duties, including updating files and records, and calendaring and tracking deadlines. Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
Qualifications: Must be a law student currently enrolled in an accredited law school within the United States. Must have a good driving record (less than six (6) active points on driving records at the application stage of the hiring process) and possess a valid Ohio driver’s license. Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings. Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization. Strong business acumen, including problem solving, vision, ability to manage multiple programs and meet deadlines, collaboration, leadership, decision making and ability to analyze diverse facts and develop clear and concise reports and recommendations. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Proficiency in Westlaw, traditional web search databases such as Google, and software programs including all Microsoft Office programs. Mature professional attitude and considerable discretion, including ability to manage confidential information. Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.

Accommodations Policy for International ESL (English as a Second Language) Students
- International students for whom English is a second language may receive up to 50% additional time on School of Law exams and may also request exam usage of a native language translation dictionary.
- Students should request additional time and or use of dictionaries for both midterms and finals through Students Services at the School of Law and by completing the International Student Exam Accommodation Request Form and submitting it to the Assistant Dean of Global Engagement Patrick Gaughan.
- All Accommodation Request Forms must be submitted at least two weeks before an examination and require approval from the Office of Student Services and the course professor. Accommodation of each type is discretionary only.
- Translation dictionaries are not provided by the Office of Student Services. The dictionary may not contain additional writing.
- The School of Law faculty strongly encourages international students for whom English is a second language to gradually take law school exams without any additional time in preparation for the bar examination.
The deadline to submit the Request Form to Assistant Dean Gaughan is WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19, 2017.
CQE Clinic Volunteer Training – Friday, April 21, 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Our next free Certificate of Qualification for Employment (CQE) clinic is Saturday, April 22, 2017! We’re very excited to be providing opportunities for ex-offenders in Summit County to take a step toward gaining employment and independence!
We are looking for students to volunteer from 8:30am-12:45pm on Saturday, April 22, 2017. The clinic will be held at Woodland Methodist Church [444 N Hawkins Ave., Akron, OH 44313]. The time you volunteer can be applied toward your graduation requirement as pro bono limited means hours.
There will be a mandatory volunteer training on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 4:30-6:00pm for first timers. Location of the training will be announced the week of the clinic. The time you are at training will count towards your pro bono limited means hours as well. For those who have completed the training once before, you are more than welcome to attend the training for a refresher. However, you may not count the training towards your pro bono limited means hours again.
