Why:                Background on the LLI program

The Law and Leadership Institute (“LLI”) was first launched by the Ohio Supreme Court as a program designed to increase minority enrollment in the state’s law schools and ultimately increase the diversity of the legal profession.  LLI reaches out to young students from disadvantaged backgrounds with a goal of providing them with the skills necessary to succeed in college, and should an interest in law continue, in law school.

As one aspect of the LLI program, in a few weeks participating Akron law firms are hosting approximately twenty 10th grade students for a four day “internship”.  This experience is designed to introduce the students to a law firm setting and lawyers, and generally encourage them about their ability to be lawyers one day.  The students look forward to this experience – they have attended LLI classes on Saturdays throughout the year, working on grammar, writing and life skills – and the law firm internship is undoubtedly a highlight of the program!

Participants in the internship are expected to dress appropriately for a law office setting.  Many of the students, however, do not have appropriate attire and are very anxious about their situation.  Most cannot afford to purchase clothing for the internship.  Please help these promising young students to feel comfortable and welcomed by our legal community.

Any contribution – clothing or cash no matter the size or amount – is most welcomed!
