ACLU: People Power Resistance Training

The Gay Straight Law Alliance, in partnership with the American  Constitution Society and the Social Justice Project, is hosting a People Power resistance training in partnership with the ACLU.

The training will teach creative ways to combat the current Administration’s discriminatory policies and provide attendees with an opportunity to network with other area activists.

The event is scheduled for March 11, 2017, 4:30- 7:00 pm. and will take place at The University of Akron, Student Union Room 312 which is located at 303 Carroll  Street, 44325. Max attendance is 100.

UA I-Corps Research Project–Law Students Needed!

The University of Akron I-Corps program is asking current UA law students for help with a research project on law school note-taking and study habits. The researchers are asking students to participate in a brief one-on-one interview where you will be asked just a few open-ended questions. The data collected will be used to solve problems faced by today’s law students.

Please note: Participants are free to choose what information to provide. Identities will be kept confidential, and no personal information will be shared.

These interviews will be scheduled on Friday mornings during the month of March between the hours of 10:00 AM and 12 Noon. If you are interested, you can email the researchers directly at: research@GavelNote.comInterviews will be in the lounge/study area in Central Hower.

Immigration & Refugee Awareness Film Festival–Cancelled for March 1

The Immigration and Human Rights Law Clinic, in conjunction with The International Law Society would like to let you know that our movie showing for Tomorrow, Wednesday March 1st  for the “Immigration & Refugee Awareness Festival” has been POSTPONED to give you all time to prepare adequately for your midterms. PRO BONO LIMITED MEANS OPPORTUNITY

Expungement Clinic Seeking Student Volunteers*   The Expungement Clinic helps low-income Summit County residents seal the record of their criminal convictions.  A sealed record enables many people better access to jobs, housing, and volunteer opportunities.  Students will learn integral skills in the legal field including filing paperwork with the court, interviewing real clients, and communicating with clients both through the mail and over the phone. Students who are eligible for a legal intern certificate will have ample opportunities to appear in court and present an oral argument.     Please keep in mind we can only accept a limited amount of students for each clinic.

All hours qualify as ProBono Limited Means.     There will be a mandatory training session. We will schedule the training the week of March 6-10, once we receive feedback from volunteers.
