Tuesday, April 2 from 4 – 5 p.m. in Room 166 (Faculty/Staff Lounge) — OSBA Alumni in Residence Program: From Law Student to Lawyer and Everything in Between. This informal conversation will allow you to meet, ask question and talk with experienced practitioners about obtaining the legal employment you want, problems regularly faced by lawyers, practice pointers, and whatever else is on your mind. Learn about marketing, business development, client services and practice development. These are all skills that new attorneys are expected to know, but that law firms won’t teach you! Reminder: Akron Law Alumni Association seeks Student Director – Application Deadline: April 4, 2013

Message from Lia Evans, Director of Alumni and Annual Fund

The Akron Law Alumni Association (“LAA”) Board of Directors has a dedicated position on its Board for a student director.  This unique and valuable opportunity provides the student director a chance to become involved in alumni leadership and alumni activities with Akron Law.  The student director represents Akron Law students to the LAA Board and works with the Board to identify ways in which students and alumni may work and communicate together for the benefit of both groups. 

The student director serves in an ex-officio capacity and is expected to attend all Board meetings which are held at the School of Law on a bi-monthly basis throughout the academic year (i.e., August, October, December, February, and April).  The Board meetings begin at 4 p.m. and generally last for one and a half hours. 

Applications for the 2013-14 student director to the LAA Board of Directors will be accepted from 2013-14 upper division law students who are in good standing.  Applications should include: (1) a current resume of the student; (2) a brief statement as to why the student believes that he or she should be selected to serve on the LAA Board; and (3) a brief statement as to why he or she wants to serve on the LAA Board. 

The LAA Board’s executive committee will review the application materials and select a maximum of three students who will be invited to make a two-minute presentation to the Board at its April 9, 2013 meeting.  Students interested in being considered for this position should forward their application materials no later than Thursday, April 4 to Sue Staats in the Office of External Programs (either in hard copy form to Ms. Staats in the Office of External Programs which is located in the Dean’s Suite or electronic form to Ms. Staats at staats@uakron.edu).

Bloomberg is Hiring Student Product Advocates

Bloomberg is looking for two law students who are interested in supporting Bloomberg Law at the University of Akron School of Law.  The positions are part-time and are scheduled to start in August.  Bloomberg representatives will be on campus April 11 and April 12 to conduct interviews.  Please follow this link for a description of the job and application instructions.

Bloomberg Law is coming to the Law School!

Mark your calendars!  The law student rollout of Bloomberg Law will take place on Thursday, April 11th.  Learn how to activate your account and receive training on Bloomberg Law.  Training sessions will be offered throughout the day.

When and where are the training sessions?
All training sessions take place in room 167 in the Law School.

  • 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
  • 12:30-1:30 – includes pizza
  • 1:30-2:30 – includes pizza
  • 4:00-5:00
  • 5:30-6:30 – includes pizza

How do we get a password if we cannot attend the training session?
Lynn Lenart will post registration instructions closer to the April 11th date.

What is Bloomberg Law anyway?
Bloomberg Law offers a growing body of legal information such as court opinions, statutes, regulation, secondary sources, and news, as well as the range of corporate and financial information.  Users can access an exceptional dockets database that includes Federal docket materials which up until now was only available on PACER.  More about Bloomberg Law->  http://about.bloomberglaw.com/ .

Are there any academic restrictions on using the Bloomberg Law password?
No!  Bloomberg Law does not have an academic restriction for law students.  This means you can use it to conduct research for class or your employer.  Access continues throughout the summer.
