The Akron Law Alumni Association Presents: A Brown Bag Lunch Career Conversation 

This casual, “brown bag” lunch will take place Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 12:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. Food will be served, Jimmy John’s.

This event is intended to bring together students and practicing attorneys to allow law students to learn more about the profession. Topics will include different practice areas, what a typical day is like, effective networking techniques, and how to impress potential employers. The conversation during this event will be student driven–this is the time to ask those “off the record” questions!

ATTENTION May 2012 GRADUATES
Are you taking the July Ohio Bar Exam?*
If yes, then here is your opportunity to begin to prepare.

Akron Law is offering a free workshop called ESSENTIAL LEGAL CONCEPTS (ELC) to help prepare you for the upcoming February bar exam. The workshop is available to students not currently taking Advanced Legal Applications. The workshop will focus on your understanding of the bar exam and provide you with essential skills needed to effectively study for the Ohio Bar exam.  Akron Law strongly encourages your enrollment in this workshop, although it is not designed to replace any bar exam preparation course you are taking, but rather to be a supplement.

The workshop will be held Saturdays, , March 3, & 31, and April 7 & 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Law School (Rm: TBD)

Enrollment is on a first come, first serve basis and open to the first 25 current students to enroll.  Any past students wishing to take the workshop are also welcome to enroll, but their request to enroll will be placed on a waiting list and considered only after current student enrollment has occurred.  *If you are a current student and not taking the Ohio bar, the course may not be catered to your specific bar exam, but you are still welcome to participate.

LexisNexis, in cooperation with the Akron Bar Association and the Career Planning & Placement  Office is pleased to present a panel discussion about the realities of starting and running a successful solo practice. Dinner will be served and all student attendees will earn 400 LexisNexis points.  The event will take place THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2012 at 5:15pm in the Moot Court Room (Room 151).  The panel will consist of Don Hicks and Paul Vincent.

 Paul Vincent, Esq is a graduate of the University of Akron School of Law, and was admitted to the Ohio State Bar in November of 2009. Paul received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Walsh University where he obtained All-American Honors in Cross Country and All-Conference Honors in Track. Paul’s legal experience is derived from clerking in the Office of Chief Counsel at NASA Glenn Research Center and State and Federal Communications, Inc. After law school, he was a state and federal lobbyist and served as General Counsel at LNE Group.  He focuses on civil litigation for corporate clients across several sectors including retail, auto, aviation, and real estate.  Paul is an active member of the Cleveland Metropolitan, Medina County and Ohio Bar Associations. He also proudly serves as a “Big” for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland. 

 Mr. Hicks has been in the legal industry for  11 years. His focus at Lexis is to provide legal tools and resources to help with the practice of law and in assisting newly licensed attorneys in the tools they need to practice law and started their business. He works  actively with the Akron Bar Association in providing seminars, CLE courses, and other  events to support the legal community.
